HILLCREST
Thornbury

A clear site, blank canvas in Thornbury provided an enormous opportunity to combine all our client’s wish list in the creation of their new family home.

The fundamental design objectives were to provide an energy efficient, light filled home with versatile, flexible living spaces and outlook to the north facing yard.

Set behind the contemporary geometric form, the wide-open entry passage is filled with natural light from the double height glazing of the central staircase. Several sliding walls were used throughout to provide multi-functional, versatile living spaces.

The main living area stretches across the width of the property to take full advantage of the north facing orientation and passive solar principles.

The lofty clerestory roof and windows over the dining room maximises natural light to the open plan and draw natural ventilation along the central passage and throughout the house.

Family room stacking doors slide away behind the external wall to maximise the opening, merging the indoor living and covered patio.
